This afternoon Max had another episode of vomiting but this time he was falling asleep in my arms after nursing when it started. He never quit breathing, he never went limp, he never turned that sickening ashen color. Both Friday evening and this afternoon, I gave Max just a couple of tablespoons of rice cereal (in 2oz of water on Friday, and in 2.5 oz of breastmilk this afternoon) then I nursed him about two and a half hours later. He was going down for a nap this afternoon (while on Friday he was going to bed for the night) right after nursing. Also, I've been holding him and burping him a little bit longer after nursing since Friday night's scare for obvious reasons. Anyway, he was sound asleep on my shoulder and I stood up to walk him upstairs to place him in his pack 'n play to sleep since he's crawling and diving now like Speedy Gonzales. I heard a big splat behind me and turned to see an early 1800's chair covered in white vomit. I pulled Max around just in time to see projectile vomit land three feet out right in the middle of the quilt I had put down to protect the rug from Max. Good aim. I frantically searched his face/eyes/expression for glimpses of Friday night's nightmare, but they weren't there. I called out for Floyd, but couldn't get his attention as I think he was sawing something outside. Max gave me a tired whine and looked at me like, "What just happened?" I kept watching Max and he threw up again. Unlike his daddy, he throws up silently. It's no wonder I didn't hear him on the monitor on Friday night. Floyd came to the rescue and got the vomit all cleaned up while I went into the courtyard (much better signal out there) to call Max's pediatrician and spare Texada from anymore Max vomit. Max seemed perfectly fine but there was so much puke all over the chair and floor it's no wonder at all that he almost drowned in it in his bed on Friday. Thank God for Floyd. Thank God for letting me keep my little boy.
After speaking with the doctor it seems clearer to her that it's probably the rice cereal that has caused Max's vomiting episodes. He has just simply been too full. He's also teething in his top gums now so he may be nursing out of comfort rather than hunger. He has bitten me very very hard with his bottom two teeth while nursing- four times today alone- which is why I said, ok let's just have a little rice cereal instead of nursing! I had no idea he'd still be full almost three hours later when I offered to nurse him because it was his usual schedule (and I was feeling sad that I'd hurt his little feelings earlier when I jerked away and loudly said NO!). The doctor said keep a close eye on him, no more rice cereal for now, and to try to nurse him just a little bit less at a time.
I know I will sleep a little deeper tonight and I hope that Marcus does too out on the rig. I cannot wait for our little family to be back together again on Friday. We have a big weekend to look forward to... we are having Max christened on Sunday in Natchez. It's Balloon Race weekend AND Wade and Desi are having their son, Webb, christened too. Our sons are just 16 days apart and it's going to be a double christening at First Presbyterian. I tear up just thinking about all the happiness this coming weekend.
Hannah,
ReplyDeleteSo glad he is okay! I so wish we could be there to celebrate with you all this weekend!
Lots of Love!
